# 1255  Pittsford Wins Fifth Title

Pittsford won their fifth Section Five Championship with a 9-5 win over Fairport.  The Panthers won their last Championship in 2015 with an 11-6 win over Penfield (HERE).  Pittsford took off and scored the first six goals before the Red Raiders got on the board.  The Panther defense held Fairport scoreless for 28 minutes.

# 1246  Fairport Returns to Finals After 2 Year Absence

Second seeded Fairport came to play and defeated Penfield 13-9.  The Red Raiders scored the first four goals and held Penfield scoreless into the second quarter.  The Patriots fought back hard for the entirety of the game, but never got closer than 2 goals.  Fairport was led in scoring by TJ Hendricks with 4g-2a.  Jake Bucci (4g-1a) and Spencer Bell (3g-1a) also added significant scoring for the Red Raiders.  Fairport advances to the Finals for the sixth time in nine years (3 wins in 2014, 2012, 2010 and 2 losses in 2011 and 2009).  They have not reached the finals since their win over Pittsford in 2014.

After a close start, Fairport scored twelve of the next thirteen goals for their win at Penfield. Nine different players made the offensive book for th Red Raiders, with Reese Burek (2g-2a) and TJ Hendricks (3g) leading the list. Jake Santini made 8 saves (62%) in the cage for the Red Raiders who finished their regular season at 8-8.

Taylor Clements (3g) scored the game winning goal with 1:02 remaining in the game to break an 8-8 tie and give Newark a 9-8 win over host Midlakes. Robert Middlebrook scored 4g for the Eagles. Fairport took a 6-0 first quarter lead and never looked back in their game with Brighton. Jake Santini made eight saves (67%) and Reese Burek led the Red Raider offense with 4g-2a.

# 1199  Thursday: Victor Takes Out Pittsford

Victor defeated Pittsford for the fourth year and handed the Panthers their first loss of the season with their 6-3 win. Victor controlled nearly the entire contest and led 6-1 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the contest. Zach Estabrooks score four goals for the Blue Devils and goalie Chayse Ierlan made 7s (70%) for Victor. There was a large crowd and Pittsford asked for a $2.00 donation in support of the National Wounded Warrior Foundation in the Shootout for Soldiers that will be hosted by Canandaigua this summer.

# 1181  Wednesday: Fairport Takes Out Ithaca

Fairport (4-1) used a five goal second quarter to spoil the perfect record of host Ithaca (7-1) this afternoon. Senior goalie Jake Santini had an impressive fourteen save day (78%) in the cage for the Red Raiders who saw TJ Hendricks lead the offense with 3g-1a. Senior Nick Miller scored all four goals for Ithaca.

It was a full day of lacrosse today with fifteen games played by twenty-nine Section Five teams. Irondequoit won a close game with Canandaigua as junior midfielder Kessel Stefano scored with 9.2 seconds left to secure the 12-11 win at home.

Two boys Varsity Lacrosse players and two girls Varsity Lacrosse players joined four other seniors for a celebration at Victor as honored the eight who signed National Letters of Intent. Attackman Zach Estabrooks will attend Seton Hill. Matt Gardner, a long-stick midfielder will go to Le Moyne.

NOTES:  In the closest contest of the night, Brighton forced overtime with only 0:04 remaining in regulation on their way to defeating Fairport 10-9. This was the first time that the Barons had defeated the Red Raiders (who have won the last five meetings). The Red Raiders continue to struggle, having lost their last five contests including the last two games in overtime.
